A COVER ALBUM IM NOT A FAN OF

BLANKET - BLUE EYES EP REVIEW

Reviewed by: | Posted on: | Category:

Blanket is a band that has held my interest ever since Modern Escapism, with their shoegaze and post-rock elements of the 2021 release solidifying my fandom. With that being one of my favorite albums in recent history, it is needless to say there are big shoes to fill.

My Gripes:

The mixing on Blue Eyes seems to have declined from their last project, with some songs not sounding as full/missing some punch in the low end. This isn’t to say the mix-down on the EP was bad by any stretch, just not the full and dreamy mix that has been present before. The drumming is another element I must bring up, as Aiden is my favorite aspect of the band. The drumming on this project feels limited since it is all cover songs, however there is a lack of character that has been present before in the percussion section of the band. It feels a bit restrained and not as cohesive as I would have loved to hear, however the overall performance was not bad. Simply put, not what it could have been knowing their talents.

Now to address the elephant in the room

And that is the main basis of the EP. This is a cover project, and while I know this might be a lot of peoples cup of tea, I am usually not a fan. I would love to see a project from them of original songs with cohesive ideas, as they have proven they are more than capable of doing just that. Overall this project was not bad, however from a band like Blanket, I would love to see an original and cohesive project rather than a cover EP. The instrumentation was okay and vocals were a strong point of every song, but my personal bias most definitely plays into how I view Blue Eyes. I am still excited to see what comes next from the Blackpool quartet in the coming future as a fan myself.

This is a simple review site made by John Sellers. I will review whatever crosses my path and is not always something brand new. Sometimes I will just show you stuff that is just plain cool that may otherwise may have gone unnoticed.
