Releasing March 27th, 2026 by Bent Window Records & Drifters Symphony:
I had the absolute pleasure of listening to this badboy early, sent to me by Bent Window Records via download link. Although I have not seen the vinyl record yet or what it looks like, it is safe to say this is a day one purchase.
ZONE BLUE
Here is what what the label says about this new album:
"Across eleven compositions, the two artists piece together scenes, places, people and mood. It could be mystical post-jazz or sprawling ambient, each track is an excursion into the deep of the twilight hours. Haunting saxophone slips in and out, leading way to flourishes of piano, synths and guitar. Cinematic and lush is an understatement."
MY EXPERIENCE WITH THE ALBUM
This quote is pretty spot on, the album has a lot of different flavor going on and it kept me drawn in for the entirety of the album. The saxophone was a definite highlight on the album. Where Zone Black was an excellent album this one swoops in with far more complexity that truly sings throughout its entirety.
Now, there is something odd about this album as well. This is straight up a Grails album. I have heard most of what Emil Amos has done and they all have there own flavors, but this one in particular sounds the closest to what that particular band does rather than sounding like a side project of sorts. The reason this is odd is because of my review of Grails new venture, Miracle Music. Essentially I stated that that album sounded more like B-sides or a side project rather than a Grails album. If someone were to just play this new Zone Blue album and tell me it is the new Grails, I could easily assume it was! Not really any problems with any of this of course, just a bit of an odd observation I have taken with these two albums.
