I am big into comic books but over the years I have found a lot fo them to become a little safer. It is actually a bit hard to find a comic book that will go against the grain and really do whatever it is they want to. That is until My favorite comic of 2023 came out!

LOVESICK

this comic series written and drawn by Luana Vecchino is peak avant-garde in this comic series. Not everything in this comic makes total sense to but every single thing she draws is solid gold. This is by far the best art in a comic book I have seen in quite awhile! It is also nice to see that this comic is filled with things that most others writers would stray from. The DC or Marvel labels kind of ruined comics a bit as they remain so very PG in content. Image comics has becomes my favorite publisher as it seems to let the artists do what they do best, make what they want!

DETECTIVE COMICS

If you are unfamiliar with major comic series like this, I can help you hop in to a series. At some point a series will switch writers and therefore starting a new ARC. These are the places you should jump in if you are looking to start your journey into comic books. So in this case, Detective comics #1062 introduces a new arc with writer Ram V at the helm. This comic book looks AWESOME. The covers in particular are some of the best that have ever come out of a Batman Series as well. But the pacing is....bad. This is a series that comes out twice a month(most series drop once a month). So what you get is a very, very long and drawn out series that could have certainly used to cutting and truncation. It's definitely not the worst batman I have read and there is some great stuff in this series, but I have grown to expect so much from Batman as the detective Comics series is usually damn good. I would say if you are looking to hop into Batman now a great place to start is BATMAN #125 which gives the reigns to writer Chip Zdarsky who does an excellent job of story telling and fast paced action. there are some weird characters introduced like "Zur-en-arrh" but nothing a quick Google search wont fix for you.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

• BEHOLD, BEHEMOTH - A interesting 6 comic series that is the like of world ending Kaiju and dealing with the aftermath.
• NIGHT OF THE GHOUL - This is a short little series written by Scott Snyder, who in my opinion is just about the best writer there is. This is inspired by movies like the Mummy and other black and white classics.
